Earlier, Apple refused to allow third-party developers to develop custom Apple Watch faces. Now, Apple will be allowing third-party apps developers to develop the Apple Watch Faces only if it is similar to the code in Apple watch series 4. However, the log message in watchOS beta 4.3.1, suggested that Apple would consider the permission to develop the future version of Apple Watch software.
The NanoTimeKit offers access to the watch face, the beta has comprised references to inactive tools of the developer which allow communicating with macOS and Xcode. This portion of log message code reads as “This is config bundle of generation by third-party would happen.” If Apple decides to implement the feature of watchOS 5 or in unknown later version. the third party face development and additional features will be added to it.
It is expected to experience many difficulties while adding up the third-party face support to watchOS. However, it will require the strict regulation to apply those designs and to remove the poor designs. Also, Apple is trying to ensure the copyright policies of the company. This decision of company was taken to differ the design of Apple Watch from other brands of watches such as Rolex and Tag Heuer. Additionally, to differ from the other competitors such as Android Wear and Fitbit.
These competitors have allowed installing the third-party faces, but the features and its design are totally changed. Apple is consistent to offer better quality products. To maintain this consistency, the company is trying to offer the face feature with the stringent regulations.
The company will reject the third-party apps for Watch if they are copied or works like other existing apps. The company will define their standards and guidelines for the third-party developers. These guidelines are still unclear. Hopefully, it will be unveiled in its update in WWDC in June.
